Information

Cocker Spaniel

Cocker Spaniels are a beloved breed known for their friendly disposition and affectionate nature, making them an outstanding choice for families. Originating from the United Kingdom, these medium-sized dogs were initially bred as hunting companions, but today they excel as loving family pets, known for their sociable personality and charm. They thrive in a household environment, particularly one with children, as they are remarkably good with young kids and have a playful spirit that brings joy to any family dynamic.

With a moderate energy level, Cocker Spaniels require regular exercise to keep them happy and healthy, making daily walks and playtime essential. Their weekly grooming routine helps keep their beautiful, silky coat in top condition, though they do tend to shed more than some other breeds. While they are fairly adaptable to apartment living, their affectionate nature and social needs make them happiest in a home where they can interact regularly with their human companions.

Intelligent and eager to please, Cocker Spaniels are quite trainable, responding well to positive reinforcement and consistent commands. Their barking tendency falls above average, which can be a deterrent for those wanting a quieter environment, but it's often a reflection of their tendency to be attentive and alert. If you're looking for a loving companion to brighten your days in Petland Batavia, Illinois, the Cocker Spaniel might be the perfect addition to your family.

The Cocker Spaniel is a beautiful dog breed by all definitions. This dog is absolute eye candy and its cheerful disposition only endears it further. This breed is an excellent companion which finds happiness in giving happiness to all. Cocker spaniels are an absolute treat to the household and on the plus size, they could fit into your purse. Petland is honored to offer first-class Cocker Spaniel puppies and our caring team of puppy specialists will help answer any questions you may have.

History of Breed

Cocker Spaniels were originally bred as hunting dogs in the United Kingdom, with the term “cocker” deriving from their use to hunt the Eurasian woodcock. When Cocker Spaniels were brought to the United States, they were bred to a different standard, which enabled them to specialize in hunting the American woodcock. This breed has remained a very well-liked and sought-after dog for generations.

Personality and Temperament

This breed is a very loyal and focused breed that enjoys the attention if her family. They have social and curious personalities yet are not known to be overly active or hyper. They do well with other pets in the family when introduced at a young age. With warm demeanors, they are easy to approach and bond with. They also are known to train easily and enjoy learning new tricks.

Appearance and Grooming

Cocker Spaniels are not high maintenance dogs. They are not considered to be heavy shedders and generally do well with a daily brushing of their coat. Bathing this breed every four to five weeks will help keep her coat shiny, healthy and clean. Routine nail clipping should also be incorporated into this breed’s care routine. This will also help this pup feel his and look her best.

Care and Feeding

Cocker Spaniels are semi active dogs and do need ample amounts of energy to feel their best. The correct ratio of meat-based protein and micronutrients, as well as healthy carbs and fats, will keep this breed healthy. Many Cocker Spaniel owners recommend feeding this dog two meals a day, spaced about twelve hours apart. It is also very important to remember to provide your dog with proper dental care. It is suggested that his teeth get cleaned a minimum of three times a week. Failing to keep his teeth clean can contribute to health issues.

Amazing staff. All very nice and answered all my questions. I loved all the dogs but I had to see the dog named Kevin! I went in with a completely negative view on petlands but the staff really changed my mind by going over all the breeder info, If I am ever in need of a puppy I will go there and you should too.

We came at a time they were very busy and never once did we feel rushed, or given attitude while asking questions. The two on staff were amazing and sweet!

I went in to get my dogs nails trimmed and was met with a smile and warm greeting from an employee, Dean. The trimming was quick and they really showed my scared dog good care. It was the most pleasant experience I’ve had when it comes to some of these pet places!

We just went for a walk”puppy therapy.” Look at how cute they are. I was a little surprised that considering how few customers were in at the time & yet we only got a “let us know if we can help you with anything” and that was it. There were plenty of employees in store, as it was probably the beginning of the Friday night shift, before families started coming in. I had made an appointment, just in case we decided to see any of the dogs. I guess I’m accustomed to the employees being more personal and wanting to tell me things based on the conversation my group is having without me having to reach out to them.
